New riverfront office tower tests its giant LED installation

As seen in Curbed

As the new 54-story waterfront tower at 150 N. Riverside puts the finishing touches on its landscaped plaza and riverwalk, the building has also fired-up an impressive 3,000-square-foot LED wall in its lobby. Dubbed “150 Media Stream” the piece is overseen by creative director Yuge Zhou and will feature programming created in collaboration with “important educational and cultural institutions in Chicago,” according to the building’s official website.

Based on an early glimpse of the illuminated panels, 150’s lobby art appears to be one of those rare occurrences where a finished architectural project ends up completely exceeding expectations set by earlier renderings. The light-up wall is further complimented by the lobby’s soaring all-glass walls and can even be observed from the opposite bank of the Chicago River through gaps in the tower’s unique tapering core.

150 N. Riverside comes from Riverside Investment and Development Company and design architect Goettsch Partners. The duo are also teaming up for an 800-foot office high-rise proposed to replace the nearby General Growth Building at 110 N. Wacker.
