150 Media Stream Tops 116 Entries for APEX Installation of the Year

Las Vegas – April 2, 2018 – Digital Signage Expo (DSE), the world’s largest international tradeshow dedicated to showcasing innovative digital display and interactive technology solutions, has awarded McCann Systems its top honor for 150 Media Stream. The Chicago-based APEX Gold and APEX Installation of the Year winning digital art installation was designed, engineered, custom fabricated, and integrated by McCann Systems.
150 Media Stream is a 3,000-square-foot display divided into 89 separated super-thin LED blades variously sized between 3.25 inches and 15 inches in width and standing vertically anywhere from 6-feet to 22-feet-tall. Creative content is provided by distinguished artists as well as students from partnering cultural and educational institutions.
“Since its launch, 150 Media Stream has become a novel, unique addition to the cultural landscape of the city and nothing like it has been in Chicago before,” Yuge Zhou, creative director and curator at for 150 Media Stream, notes the installation’s effect, both within and around the arts community. “It’s an interesting canvas for media artists, but also for cultural practitioners such as designers and filmmakers. It is part of a larger zeitgeist of architects, artists, engineers, and real estate investors planning digital art and dynamic screen displays as part of their most important creations.”
McCann Systems bested 13 entries in the Arts, Entertainment & Recreation category for the APEX Gold, with the overall top honor of APEX Installation of the Year chosen amongst the nine Gold winners from a field of 116 total entries.
Zhou reacts to the prestigious distinction, “The Apex award comes at the one-year anniversary of this installation and is an acknowledgement of our technological and artistic achievement. This award recognizes the 150 Media Stream as a leading force in this new movement.”
150 North Riverside Plaza, home to 150 Media Stream, has won acclaim on its own as an architectural phenomenon, winning the prestigious Chicago Innovation Award.
